CEO of Upstream
Bernard joined BP in 1991 as a drilling engineer, working in the North Sea, Vietnam and the Gulf of Mexico. In 2005 he became Senior VP for BP Alaska before becoming Head of the Group Chief Executive’s office in 2007. In 2009 he became MD of BP’s North Sea business in the UK and Norway.
He took on the role of Executive Vice President, developments, in 2010, and in 2013 became Chief Operating Officer, production, serving in the role until 2016 when he was appointed Chief Executive of BP’s Upstream segment, with a remit across exploration, development and production.
Bernard holds a degree in electrical engineering from UCD and a Master’s in management from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Member of the Stanford GSB Advisory Council, a council member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and an industry advisory council fellow of the Energy Institute.
In March of this year Bernard was awarded Fellowship of Engineers Ireland.
